LTC Army (Ret) Edward Laurence Thorsted LTC Army (Ret) Edward Laurence
Thorsted passed away Friday, May 6, 2005, at his home in Ogden, Utah of an
illness incident to age. He was born on September 14, 1918 to Otto L. Thorsted
and Edith Gullikson Thorsted. The oldest of five sons, Edward was raised at
472 2nd Street, Ogden, Utah (Five Points). He attended Ogden City Schools,
graduating from Ogden High School in 1936. He worked at Wangsgards Grocery
Store until August 1941 when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He received
his commission as a Second Lieutenant in 1942. He served in North Africa, and
the European theater during World War II and returned home in 1945 marrying
his sweetheart, Lois Toombs of Brigham City, Utah, in the Salt Lake Temple
that same year. He was recalled to active duty in 1955 and retired as a Lt.
Colonel after returning from Vietnam in 1965, having served 24 1/2 years on
active duty. He was appointed the Director of the Junior ROTC program for
Ogden City Schools in 1967 where he served for nineteen wonderful years
working with the youth at Ben Lomond and Ogden High Schools. He completed his
Bachelor of Arts degree at Weber State College along with his teaching
certificate. He learned his Masters in Education as well as finishing all
academic requirements for his Doctorate in Education from Brigham Young
University. His military awards include the combat infantry badge (with star),
Bronze star, the Army Commendation medal (2 oak leaves) and many other service
medals. He was a registered Scouter for thirty-four years filling top staff
positions in the Bonneville and Trapper Trail Councils. He received the award
of merit and the National Silver Beaver. His parents, his wife Lois, and one
son, Harold Scott, preceded him in death. His two sons Edward Craig Thorsted,
and Stephen Laurence (Lynnette Parr) Thorsted both live in the Ogden area. He
has eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be
held Saturday, May 14, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lorin Farr LDS Meetinghouse
at 1608 13th Street in Ogden. Friends and family may call on Friday from 6:00
to 8:00 p.m. at Leavitt's Mortuary, 836 36th Street, Ogden, Utah, or from
10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Lorin Farr LDS Meetinghouse prior to the services.
Interment at Brigham City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Ed requests that
donations be made to the Trapper TrailCouncil Memorial Fund (Boy Scouts of
